9v to 3.3v

Hi all,

Just wondering how you guys drop voltage from 9 to 3.3v effectively?

I started a project with a zener diode and 330ohm resistor. It gives me exactly 3.3 volts however when connected to my esp-12 mini the voltage drops to 1.3 volts and the esp-12 mini wont power up.

Looking for the best alternative way that is stable and not so much effected by current. Neither produces a lot of heat and drain the battery fast.
